Do you know what’s in your bug repellant? Have you checked the ingredients? That’s the first thing I do now! The most popular active ingredients in bug repellant have been linked to neurotoxicity, memory loss, headaches and even seizures? I don’t want to spray any of those chemicals onto my body, do you? And, to top that off, they aren’t very effective at keeping the bugs away.
I’m gonna share with you my favorite recipe for a super effective bug repellent!
What you will need:
– An empty sprits/spray bottle
– Terrashield essential oil blend (I have alternatives for this blend listed at the bottom.)
– Eucalyptus essential oil
– Fractionated Coconut Oil (or any carrier oil will work. Jojoba oil, almond oil etc.)
I have all these things for you right here! and here are the spray bottles I used.
Ready to make it? It’s very simple.
In the 4oz spray bottles
1 – Add 20-25 drops of Terrashield oil blend
2 – Add 15-20 drops of Eucalyptus essential oil
3 – Add 2 tsp of Fractionated Coconut oil (or carrier oil of your choice)
4 – Top off with filtered or purified water
Shake well before use! I usually only spray a little on the back of each knee, and on the inside of my elbows.
I know not everyone is a DIYer so I’ve got a cheat for you! doTERRA has a pre-made sprits bottle of the Terrashield Outdoor Blend!
TerraShield Outdoor Blend is an ideal safe and natural option for all your outdoor excursions! It’s seriously the most effective bug spray I’ve ever used. Terrashield is a blend of Ylang Ylang Flower, Tamanu Seed, Nootka Wood, Cedarwood Wood, Catnip Plant, Lemon Eucalyptus Leaf, Litsea Fruit, Vanilla Bean Absolute, Arborvitae Wood essential oils. These plants naturally repel insects, therefore the oils derived from these plants will do the same.
Alternatives for Terrashield Outdoor Blend: Lemongrass, Arborvitae, and Cedarwood. You could add just one along with the Eucalyptus, but I would suggest picking at least two of the alternatives to boost the effectiveness of the whole recipe. I have all of them here for you! Simply add 20 drops of the oils of your choice to the bottle in place of Terrashield.
This spray is a great option for the whole family. It’s safe, all natural and nontoxic! We use this all summer long.
