Cooking With Essential Oils

Did you know you can use dōTERRA oils for cooking!?

I love using oils in my food because they taste great, and the health benefits are bountiful! dōTERRAs oils are tested and retested for internal use safety, so you know you’re getting the best quality! Many companies add fillers and substitutions to enhance scent and quantity which makes them unsafe to ingest.

dōTERRA oils are highly concentrated, so you really only need a few drops to get the taste and full benefits! Be sure to dilute in some form of lipid- olive, coconut, or another oil alike. This helps with dispersing it through your dish! It also helps to add the oils in after you have finished most of the cooking as the heat may cause the oils to lose some of the chemical properties.

Here’s a quick guide for substituting oils for Herbs and Citrus from the Essential Life Book!

– ½ tsp dried herbs = 1 ½ tsp fresh herbs = 2-3 toothpick swirls Essential Oil – 1 tsp dried herbs = 1 Tbs fresh herbs = 1 drop Essential Oil
– 1 tsp citrus extract = 16 drops citrus Essential Oil
– 1 Tbs citrus zest = 8 drops citrus Essential Oil

Some of the best oils to cook with include, Basil, Thyme, Lemon, Ginger, etc… Make sure you check the bottles for internal use instructions to be sure the oil you are going to use is acceptable for ingesting, if they are the bottle should have supplement facts printed on the label.

One of my favorites is adding a drop of oregano to spaghetti and meatballs! Give it a try!
