Essential oil 101

Part of my wellness routine includes essential oils. I want to do a quick intro to essential oils because I will be talking about them often on here. People often turn to oils when their current approach isn’t working, they don’t like pushing pills, and they don’t want to pay high healthcare costs. I love that they are an all natural option for supporting my health!

What are Essential oils?

Essential oils are naturally found in plants – usually in seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, or peels. They are highly concentrated when distilled for purity, potency and efficacy. Essential oils are often used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications.

How do I use Essential oils?

There are 3 easy ways to use Essential oils.

Aromatic
You can diffuse or inhale oils to obtain their soothing, calming or stimulating effects. Diffusing oils can also purify the air.

Topical
When diluted with a carrier oil, such as Fractionated Coconut oil or Jojoba oil, Essential oils can be applied safely for massage or topical benefits.

Internal
Certain Essential oils can be used as dietary supplements for targeted wellness.

Safety tips!

  • Do not put oils in your eyes, ears or up your nose.
  • Citrus oils are Photosensitive and should not be used topically within 24hrs of sun exposure.
  • Not all oils are created equal, do not assume your oil is safe to take internally. Check their website, ask me or someone you know that uses oils.
  • Always use glass or stainless steel cups and bottles when adding oils to drinks.
  • Dilute with carrier oil when using essential oils topically (extra dilution for children, elderly and those with skin sensitivities.)

I love my essential oils! I have many uses for them. They help support my body’s overall wellness, and they’ve replaced all of my personal care and cleaning products in my home. Keeping things all natural and toxin free is a great start to staying healthy.
